We are a retired couple. Elizabeth is a practitioner of Ayurvedic medicine doing integrative medicine as she has been a licenced pharmacist in the past. Craig is a retired contractor/builder who has built many home, including a Tiny House on wheels but this is his first house with clay walls. Elizabeth and Craig share interests in meditations yoga and anything in the healing arts plus plus exploring the supernatural. Elizabeth loves to sing especially Kirtan style. Craig has a passion for anything to do with airplanes as he used to fly and sky dive in his youth. We have grown children and 2 granddaughters.

    Mon lieu

We live in an intentional community called Hearthstone Village in the qathet region of coastal British Columbia, Canada, population 13,000, which includes the town of Powell River. The area has 37 lakes, mountains, hiking trails and mountain biking trails. We are the 5th clay/slip house built on 42 beautiful acres of forest, bordering a river and 15 minute walk to the ocean. Currently 16 people live in our community which is 4 years old. We use Sociocracy for governance.

    Projets

Our 900 sq foot one story shed roof structure is framed with fir milled from the forests in our area. The windows, doors, plumbing and electrical are roughed in. Now the fun begins with the clay slip/wood chip infill walls. We have one wall done with 3 to go....These walls will have to dry over the summer and then in late August we will start with the plastering. After the plastering the clay floors will go in and then we can start finishing the inside with pine and hemlock boards......Once you have been inside a house like this which is made of all natural materials you can't imagine going back to anything else. It feels like a lovely little cave, silent and sweet and nourishing. We are the fifth house built with clay in our community and #6 is also in process.

    Logement

We have 3 tents on wooden floors with real bed. 2 tents single beds and 1 with a double bed. Helpers have access to a full bathroom with shower in our Common House. There is a large kitchen and designated areas to hang out. Members in our community have etheir own homes but the Common House is shared with our community at large.

    Repas

As host I cook one hot meal a day at noon and one smaller lighter meal in the evening like dahl. I like cooking with Indian spices and have cooked this way for many years. Also use "Healthy Meal" cook books to plan my menus usually with beans and grains chicken or fish. Can provide vegetarian meals but vegan is more difficult but can do it. Breakfasts food is left for everyone to do "their own thing" like porridge, granola, yogurt, coffee, toast, or muffins etc.
